Researchers project that by 2030, nearly 1 million people in Canada will be living with dementia. Ontario will have a 202% dementia increase between 2020 and 2050. Ontario will have the most new cases of dementia by 2050.
The chance of developing dementia can be reduced by:
- being physically active
- limiting alcohol consumption
- eating a healthy, balanced diet
- managing depression, if you have it
- reducing your exposure to air pollution
- paying attention to the quality of your sleep
- quitting smoking and avoiding second-hand smoke
SPLC’s Active Living Centre offers a variety of activities to help keep you physically and cognitively active, and our health promotion programs offer workshops and events to promote the overall well-being of older adults.
