Student Placements
We welcome placement students in health and other related professional fields to complete a work placement to graduate.
Even if you don’t see a volunteer placement listed, we encourage you to fill in an application. We will contact you if a suitable position comes available.

Here’s what to expect when you apply to volunteer.

New volunteers and students interested in any positions with SPLC must attend a mandatory information session. - Screening
Your application will be screened by our staff to determine what position might be the best fit for you. - Interview
We will contact you for an interview to learn more about you and give you an opportunity to ask us questions. - Onboarding

Yes, some of our volunteers are high school students.
Yes, we have a general orientation session conducted by Volunteer Services, and also a position orientation conducted by the position supervisor or a senior volunteer.
For the position which will directly deal with clients, we require you to complete a vulnerable sector screening (police background check).
One should be an employer, supervisor, teacher or an individual known through community involvement for at least 6 months. The other can be a personal friend or family member.
We are happy to provide reference letters to our volunteers who complete 40 or more hours with us.
Most of our volunteer opportunities take place during regular business hours. We do have some positions (for example, virtual translator, some program assistant, and graphic designer) which are very flexible and can happen in the evening and over the weekend.
We continue to keep measures in place to protect the Health and Safety of in-person volunteers during each shift. Volunteers are expected and supported to:
- Complete and submit a COVID-19 Screening Form before each shift
- Complete a mandatory orientation session and trainings
For the health and safety of our community, SPLC has a policy in place ensuring all volunteers, staff and third-party contractors are fully vaccinated. As part of our mask-friendly environment, volunteers, staff and clients are invited to continue masking and using our provided sanitizer.
